20 Haitian migrants found on one of the British Virgin Islands
1 min read

The Department of Immigration in the British Virgin Islands reported that 20 Haitians were apprehended earlier this week in the North Sound area of Virgin Gorda, heightening concerns about human smuggling in this British Overseas Territory.
The group, consisting of 12 males and seven females, including three children, was transported from Virgin Gorda to Tortola with assistance from the Marine Unit of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
This incident underscores ongoing challenges in the territory and the wider region, as Haitians continue to flee severe economic and social hardships, such as widespread hunger, political violence, and inadequate government infrastructure in their home country.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer Nadia Demming-Hodge has urged the community to provide information regarding the migrants or potential smuggling activities.
