Dominica: Landfill closed due to fire

The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation has advised the public that a fire is affecting operations at the Fond Cole Sanitary Landfill.
The Corporation says due to circumstances beyond its control, the landfill will be closed from today until further notice as it addresses the fire which broke out on the Tipping Face.
Residents nearby have complained about the toxic smell being caused by the dump fire.
Dominica State College, which is situated in Stock Farm, Roseau, announced that due to the poor air quality at Stock Farm today caused by the fire at the landfill, all classes are cancelled for the day.
People with respiratory illnesses have been advised to stay away from the campus. It says administrative offices will remain open with staff who are able to remain on campus.
