Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has advised that the contractor who was electrocuted while working on power lines in the inner-city community of Trench Town in St Andrew on February 2, has died.
A statement from the light and power company on Monday said the contractor who was earlier identified as Ainsley Scott, died on Monday at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he was taken for treatment.
Scott, who was employed to emergency contractors M&O Traders, which is contracted to JPS, was responding to a customer issue on Eighth Street in Trench Town when tragedy struck. He was working with a colleague at the time of the incident.
“The company expresses condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues,” said the company in the statement.
It added that “JPS also wishes to express gratitude for the bravery and selfless help of residents (of the community) who went to Scott’s assistance.”
The contractor reportedly suffered severe burns all over his body and was rushed to the KPH after some residents used ladders to climb the utility pole where he was left stuck on wiring after being electrocuted, to pull him down.
The light and power company said it will be working alongside M&O Traders to investigate the overall circumstances surrounding Scott’s death.
