Reconstruction of Mayaro Road in final stages
1 min read

The reconstruction of the road leading to Mayaro is in its final stages.
According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, its Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE) Unit is in the final stages of completing the crucial route linking the communities of Sangre Grande and Manzanilla to Ortoire, Mayaro and Guayaguayare.
The ministry noted that throughout the rehabilitation of the roadway, it “leveraged new technology to produce bitumen-stabilized material, using reclaimed and recycled asphalt pavement from its stockpiles.”
It noted further that when fully completed, the project will also “reignite and bolster tourism, cottage industries and the vibrant community life in the area.”
The original roadway collapsed in November 2022 due to significant flooding in the area.
