T&T team for Pan American Men’s Hockey Cup announced

Akim Toussaint will lead Trinidad and Tobago into battle at the Pan American Men’s Hockey Cup in Santiago, Chile in January.

Trinidad and Tobago is one of eight teams for the tournament which runs from 20-30 January 2022.

The national team will be coached by former national player Darren Cowie, who replaced Glen Francis as head coach in October.

T&T finished fourth in the 2017 edition of the tournament under former coach Francis.

The national men’s hockey team has been drawn in Pool B with Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

T&T open its campaign against the USA on 20 January, before facing Mexico (22 January) and Canada (24 January).

The final is set for 30 January, with the finalists qualifying for the 2021 FIH Hockey World Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago was due to host the tournament from 7-22 August 2021 but withdrew from hosting due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

The Pan American Hockey Federation later announced the Cup would be hosted in Chile.

Argentina won the 2017 edition of the tournament.
